Remember when we used to harvest bone from a donor site and how options changed with the advent of tissue banks? The more materials came along suitable for grafting: Xenografts, ceramics, tricalcium sulfate, mesenchymal cells, bone morphogenic proteins and more.
As Dr. Jim Fine, chairman of Columbia’s PG perio program, teaches us, using only one grafting material is no longer the best way to go. But how should we use grafts? And which ones?
By the time this lecture is completed, you will better understand the dynamics of bone grafting and how to evaluate new products that enter the marketplace. In addition, Jim will have convinced you that graft “cocktails” are the way to go, sprinkled with appropriate does of Vitamin D.
