About this section

OVERVIEW:
A part of every young patient’s life is “accidents can happen”. For the Dental Professional this can present as trauma to the face and oral cavity. The goal of this discussion will to enhance the attendees understanding of both diagnosis and treatment of dental trauma. This presentation will focus on and discuss, trauma to both primary and permanent dentition classification, diagnosis and treatment modalities of dental trauma will be presented. Importantly, the presentation will address current accepted standards and evidenced based approaches concerning dental trauma.

Presenter(s)

  • Steven P. Hackmyer, D.D.S.
    • STEVEN P. HACKMYER, D.D.S., earned his dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry. He is currently, Associate Clinical Professor Department of Pediatric Dentistry, University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. Dr. Hackmyer earned his dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry. After that, he completed a residency in Pedodontics at Brookdale Hospital University Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Hackmyer prior to joining the UTHSCSA faculty was the Interim Pediatric Dentistry Program Director at the Dental Branch at University of Texas Health Science Center Houston.

      Dr. Hackmyer was an Assistant Professor in Residence, Clinical Sciences and the initial Pre-doctoral Pediatric Dentistry Course Director at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, School of Dental Medicine. While at UNLV he was the Principal Investigator for a three year 1.6 million dollar HRSA grant to fund a new Pediatric Dental residency program. Dr. Hackmyer is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Education Association, and American Association for Dental Research. Dr. Hackmyer has been an invited speaker at local and national professional meetings. You may contact this author at hackmyer@uthscsa.edu
