Facial Pain NOT Caused by Teeth, Lecture 2

Not Supported.

Course overview

In Lecture #2 of the Facial Pain Series, the patient complains of tooth pain. It may be intermittent, it may be triggered by hot or cold, or the adjacent gingiva may react to the touch of a cotton swab. Odontogenic? Neurological? Pathlological? Dr. Jeff Burgess, our oral medicine advisor, continues his exquisite series on facial pain that is NOT caused by the teeth. In this segment, Jeff discusses many medical conditions that manifest themselves in the oral cavity that should give the dentist pause to either not treat or at least not perform any irreversible procedure until the patient consults with the appropriate expert. Jeff guides us in how and when to make that decision, and who best to refer patients with pain of unknown origin to for a further evaluation. It is always good to remember the axiom “do no harm,” and this lecture series certainly helps apply that important principle.

There is a test over Lecture #2 that must be successfully completed to receive 1 hour of Continuing Dental Education Credit. Since there are three lectures in this Series, there is one more lecture in the Series on Facial Pain Not Caused by Teeth. After you complete each of the lectures, there is a test to verify successful completion, in order to receive Continuing Dental Education Credit for that Lecture.
