In this one hour Lecture, Dr. Soxman tackles how best to deal with the decisions and pressures of pediatric oral trauma, whether it is in the middle of a busy day or at odd hours when there is no assistant available to help the treating dentist. The psychosocial benefits of timely aesthetic care for young patients with visible dental trauma is discussed and it is critical to note that nearly half the children with multiple dental trauma episodes will re-traumatize the same tooth. This course urges the creation of a “Trauma Form” that will help the clinician be more effective in treating pediatric dental emergencies. The details of such a form are discussed and this course demonstrates how best to examine for trauma, for the signs and symptoms of a concussion or a jaw fracture and how to administer antibiotics for trauma. There is also a discussion of which radiographs should be taken in pediatric dental trauma cases.
