A brief introduction on the history of dental materials and teeth replacement, from ancient times, will lead our course into the cad-cam dental technology explosion that began in the 1980s. With hundreds of dental cad-cam and all ceramic systems available the measurements of “clinical success” and “survival rates” have taken different paths. The comprehensive diagnosis and treatment planning in modern restorative dentistry will be extensively discussed. Emphasis will be placed on the optimal sequence of diagnostic, clinical and laboratory procedures to achieve functional, esthetic and predictable results.
Evidence-based research data, with special attention to risk factors, will be discussed to evaluate modern and traditional dental ceramics. Clinical cases with different degrees of complexity (from single anterior tooth to full mouth rehabilitation) will be meticulously explained to encourage the clinician to consider a conservative, predictable and successful philosophy of treatment.
