A great opportunity to experience a US Dental school program
One-week program with optional second week

Course Overview

  • One week-long program, with optional second week, designed for Internationally trained Dentists to provide a culminating experience to further their dental education in United States.
  • This program is designed to meet the needs of prospective students who are interested in understanding the basic framework for the International Dentist Education Program.
  • Rolling admissions, program dates will be published one month prior to each month of observership program.

  • Please note that course dates are to be coordinated by attendee and course director.


    Course Curriculum

  • Informal meeting with residents
  • Attendance at pre-doctoral didactic lectures (if sessions are held in person only)
  • Literature review seminar
  • Clinical conference
  • Grand rounds seminar with CE credit

  • Schedule

  • This program is full time 8-5 PM (Monday to Friday for 1 or 2 weeks)
  • Every session will be designed to maximize the clinical exposure per that week
  • Preceptor will spend 4 half days in clinic (3.5 hours during each session for total up to 25 hours per week) and 2 half-days in pre-clinical simulation lab
  • Preceptors will be allowed to attend seminars and grand rounds offered during that session
  • There will be a meal break, we will not be providing meals. You are welcome to bring your own lunch or enjoy our on-campus cafeteria options

  • Selection Criteria

  • Rolling admissions, program held for 2 weeks
  • Candidate should be able to demonstrate adequate English language speaking skills during virtual meeting
  • Should demonstrate strong commitment to improve clinical and didactic knowledge

  • How to Apply

  • There is a $100 deposit upon registration
  • Once you’ve registered, the course director will contact you and arrange for an interview via zoom. Upon completion of that review process, you will be able to finalize your registration and complete your enrollment with a $1,150 payment. The program is for one week. If you’d like to enroll for a second week, you need not apply again and would simply pay another $1,250
  • Complete visiting student application for a $25 processing fee (included in $1,150 payment amount made after completing enrollment)

  • Attire

  • Scrubs all day, please attend in your own scrubs. Gowns will be provided during the course
  • Closed toed shoes
  • Identification badges are to be worn so that the name on the badge is visible at all times

    • Poornima Mensinkai, BDS, MS, PhD
      • MensinkaiP182Dr. Mensinkai currently serves as Director for South Asian Academic Initiatives, Assistant Director of the International Dentist Education Program (IDEP), and Clinical Associate Professor at the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry. She also represents the School of Dentistry as a Member-at-Large on the Faculty Senate, advocating for academic and institutional excellence.

        In recognition of her professional achievements and commitment to education, Dr. Mensinkai was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon (Mu Nu Chapter) in May 2025 and honored as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists in October 2025.

        Deeply passionate about mentoring and training internationally trained dentists pursuing careers in the United States, Dr. Mensinkai directs the Hand Skills Continuing Education Course at Continuing Dental Education at UT Health San Antonio. She is an active contributor to institutional service through her participation on the DDS and IDEP Admissions Committees, the Dental Education Outreach Committee, and the Dentistry Enhancement for Clinical Opportunities (DECO) Task Force for Patient Screening.

        In service to her profession, Dr. Mensinkai maintains active membership in the Indian Dental Association (IDA), the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), and the International Association for Dental Research (IADR).
