The Limitless Power of Digital Dentistry: From Single Tooth to Full Arch
Ahmed Sabbah DDS PhD, Francisco Recinos DDS
Digital dentistry is the foundation of modern treatment planning. Once the ideal smile is created, the case is reverse engineered to achieve the results through guided implementation and communication. CAD software allow merger of facial data, STLs and CBCTs to create the virtual patient. The interdisciplinary team and patient can discuss implementation to deliver patient centered results. 3D printing has unlocked the potential to translate plans clinically and allow the execution of biomimetic and guided dentistry. Printed mock-ups, crowns and provisionals are used during the “test drive” phase. Printed overlays allow minimally invasive dentistry. Printed prototypes help us decide between FP1 VS FP3 prosthesis and printed guides facilitate restoratively driven fashion implant placement. Printed provisonals can then be used for lab communication and conversion to the final milled prosthesis. Digital dentistry has allowed us to deliver person centered care by unlocking our full potential. In this course we discuss the following:
Introduce the digital cycle in the modern dental practice
Introduce digital smile design
Discuss interdisciplinary digital treatment panning and available software
Discuss treatment plan presentation and criteria for the mock-up phase
Introduce 3D printing and applications in modern dentistry
Demonstrate 3D printing of permanent ceramic infiltrated crowns and veneers
Discuss digital workflows in worn dentition patients
Discuss digital workflow for the edentulous patient
Discuss guided implant placement in FP1 and FP3 cases
