Responsible Dental Prescriber - Analgesic Prescribing Part 2: Beyond the Basics

This course is intended to satisfy SBDE rules 111.1 and 104.1 as of this date. This portion of the course will emphasize risks associated with analgesics that are often underappreciated. Understanding these risks will allow the practitioner to better select from all the tools in the analgesic toolbox to provide maximum pain control with minimum risk. Practice situations will be used to illustrate the points raised in the discussion.
After completing the course, the participant will:
Understand how and when NSAIDs increase the risk of stroke and myocardial infarction
Understand how and when NSAIDs increase the risk of renal failure
Understand how and when NSAIDs increase the risk of liver failure
Understand how and when NSAIDs increase the risk of gut complications
