Course Overview
Infections present a significant hazard in the dental environment. Although protection of the patient is an obvious priority, oral healthcare personnel are also vulnerable to exposure. The intent of this course is to set forth an Infection Control/Exposure Control Protocol to minimize the transmission of infections in the clinical process (for the protection of patients and oral health care personnel alike) via direct contact with blood, saliva, and other secretions; via indirect contact with contaminated instruments, operatory equipment, and environmental surfaces; and via airborne contaminants such as droplet spatter and aerosols of infectious body fluids.
Objectives
Participants in this course will be introduced to evidence-based information that will facilitate compliance with 29 CFR Part 1910.1030, Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, Final Rule Federal Register 56(235): 64004-182, 1991 and the implementation of recommendations made by other federal, state, and local agencies and professional organizations.
In addition to fulfilling your annual OSHA requirements upon completion of this course, oral healthcare personnel should be able to:

No Recording and Transcription Policy
To protect the privacy, security, and integrity of our programs, meetings, and events, recording of any kind is strictly prohibited unless expressly authorized in writing by the department director. This includes, but is not limited to:

- AI-based or automated transcription tools (e.g., apps or software that convert speech to text)
Guidelines: All participants are expected to respect this policy at all times. If recording is necessary as an accommodation, or for education or administrative purposes, prior approval must be obtained in writing. Unauthorized recording or transcription may result in removal from the session and/or further administrative action. Exceptions may only be granted by the department director in advance. Taking detailed notes is encouraged, and participants are welcome to take pictures of the presentation slides for personal use.
Purpose: This policy ensures a safe and respectful environment, protects sensitive and proprietary information, and upholds the confidentiality of all participants.
