Coronal Polishing for the Dental Assistant

Combination Webinar Lecture and hands-on clinic session

March 1, 2022 - March 12, 2022

Master Coronal Polishing

This program will provide a total of 8 hours of instruction and application of Coronal polishing.

The lecture will be provided in:

  • (TWO) 2 1/2 hours of Interactive webinars, plus....
  • 3 hours of hands-on or clinical information will be provided in our clinic on patient simulators.

  • (This is intended to provide this educational program in a safe environment without patient participation.)

    “Coronal polishing” pertains to the removal of plaque and extrinsic stain from exposed natural and restored tooth surfaces using an appropriate rotary instrument with rubber cup or brush and polishing agent.

    With this course you will get a two series webinar full of the most up to date information regarding coronal polishing, and how to improve your contribution to your dental practice. In addition to that you will have the opportunity to review, apply your skills, and master appropriate techniques prior to returning to your practice."

    COURSE SCHEDULE to be delivered in the following format:

  • Webinar SESSION 1: Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
  • Webinar SESSION 2: Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
  • HANDS-ON SESSION: Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 9am - 12 noon at UT Health School of Dentistry

    Objectives

    Course of instruction will include:

  • Dental Anatomy and Head and Neck anatomy (as it relates to this topic)
  • Medical emergencies in the dental office
  • Case selection for coronal polishing
  • Ergonomics, patient positioning, “best practices”
  • Infection control procedures
  • Technique and proper use of dental equipment
  • Legal aspects of Coronal Polishing


  • The instructional lectures will be provided on 2 evenings and will allow questions and answers to the various topics. The hands-on portion of the course will allow the participant the opportunity to learn and develop appropriate techniques in coronal polishing. We will also discuss and various pieces of dental equipment, dental instruments and dental materials.

    The webinar will be provided on a platform that can be viewed on either a desktop or laptop computer as well as a tablet.

    This will be a “live and interactive” Webinar - Q&A and chat will be available.

    • Lauren Hrynyshyn-Silva, DDS
      • Dr. Hrynyshyn is a Maryland native; however, after growing up in the great state of Texas, she calls San Antonio home. She graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a B.S. in Biology, and continued on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery with teaching honors certification at UT Health School of Dentistry in San Antonio in 2019.

        Dr. Hrynyshyn practiced general dentistry in two San Antonio practices before she turned her sights on the world of Personal Finance. She now works with UBS as a Financial Advisor and she has a part-time appointment teaching Practice Managment as an Associate Professor in the Comprehensive Dentistry Department of UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Texas Academy of General Dentistry, American Association for Women Dentists, and the San Antonio District Dental Society. By graduating with teaching honors, she has always enjoyed teaching and working in the realm of academia. She enjoys taking several continuing education courses, and sharing her knowledge with others.

        When not practicing dentistry, she enjoys working out, exploring San Antonio’s best restaurants, and spending time with her husband Manny, and their two cats Tex and Taz. You may contact this author at lauren.hrynyshyn@gmail.com
    • Scott G. Stafford, DDS, MBA
      • StaffordS173Dr. Stafford, DDS, MBA, is a 1996 graduate of UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry. He has owned and operated four dental practices, simultaneously, in and around the San Antonio area. He has lectured and written on the topic of Practice Management and Ownership for the last 15 years. He has served as guest faculty at UNLV, and Roseman dental schools and authored the Practice Management programs at these and several other dental programs. He co-developed a practice management curriculum software that has been utilized at Howard University, UMKC, University of Kentucky, UNLV, Roseman, UT Health Houston, VCU, ECU, Univ. of Pittsburg, UNC, CU, and UMN, and UT Health San Antonio. He earned his MBA from Texas Tech University with an emphasis in Healthcare management in 2007. He left full-time private practice in 2017 and became Director of Continuing Dental Education and Practice Management at UT Health San Antonio. He continues patient care in faculty practice on a part-time basis, while lecturing and scouting for new CE topics and speakers.     No Recording and Transcription Policy
