Opioid Crisis in America

Implications for Dentistry - Online Course

Course Overview

An online presentation of new information on America's current opioid Epidemic with an emphasis on the history, pharmacology and prescribing practices of opioid analgesics.


Objectives

To fulfill TSBDE recent regulations Title 22, Part 5, Chapter 111 regarding a practitioners' privileges to write for controlled substances. To Provide prescribers with reasons for utilizing alternative medications when indicated To provide dental professionals with the skills to manage “drug-seeking” patients. To educate Texas prescribers on utilization of the Prescriber Database to aid in patient care.

  • Jack Vizuete, DDS
    • DR. JACK VIZUETE, DDS, and his wife of 37 years currently reside in Boerne, Texas. He was previously in the private practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with Corpus Christi Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, P.C. for 21 years. Dr. Vizuete graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976 with a degree in Pharmacy and is a Registered Pharmacist with the state of Texas. He practiced pharmacy for 3 years prior to returning to school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Dental Branch. He graduated in 1984 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and followed with a General Practice Residency at the Audie Murphy Veterans Administration Hospital in San Antonio. Dr. Vizuete then went on to complete a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UTHSC at Houston in 1989. Dr. Vizuete is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Since July of 2010, Dr. Vizuete has been a Clinical Assistant Professor in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UT Health San Antonio, Dental School. In September of 2011, Dr. Vizuete received cross-appointment as Research Assistant Professor in the department of Pharmacology of the UT Health San Antonio, School of Medicine, and currently teaches the Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics course to senior dental students.
