Mastering Dental Sleep Medicine TMD & Orofacial Pain: A 2-Day Intensive Program

Course Overview

This intensive two-day continuing dental education program provides an evidence-based comprehensive review of Dental Sleep Medicine, Temporomandibular Disorders, and Orofacial Pain within a structured curriculum. Led by a multidisciplinary faculty, the course emphasizes current scientific evidence, recognized diagnostic frameworks, and clinically applicable treatment protocols.

This program is designed for general dentists and specialists who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in dental sleep medicine, temporomandibular disorders (TMD), and orofacial pain.

  • Objectives

    Upon successful completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the basic pathophysiology and clinical presentation of common sleep-related breathing disorders.
  • Identify key screening signs, symptoms, and risk factors for sleep-related breathing disorders.
  • Perform a structured clinical examination for sleep disorders, TMD and orofacial pain, including targeted history, pain assessment, and musculoskeletal evaluation.
  • Discuss the indications, limitations, and potential adverse effects of oral appliance therapy for obstructive sleep apnea, and describe principles of appliance design and titration.
  • Describe conservative, reversible, and evidence-based management strategies for common TMD and orofacial pain conditions, including when to refer to other providers.

    • Leopoldo P. Correa, BDS, MS. D, ABDSM
      • CorreaL346Dr. Leopoldo P. Correa is an expert in Dental Sleep Medicine, currently a Professor at the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM ENES-León), where he directs the Dental Sleep Medicine Curriculum Program and leads the Dental Sleep Clinic. With over 25 years of experience at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, he has become a pioneer in managing sleep-related breathing disorders, particularly obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

        Innovative Education and Training:
        Dr. Correa has directed and developed pioneering international continuing education programs. His initiatives have significantly advanced the integration of sleep therapies within dentistry and fostered collaboration with various specialties, resulting in comprehensive diagnostic and treatment approaches for sleep disorders.

        Mentorship and Leadership:
        He has mentored countless dentists and dental professionals, leading innovative educational initiatives across the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. His mentorship has been instrumental in enhancing global training in Dental Sleep Medicine.

        Research Contributions:
        Dr. Correa has actively contributed to research in Dental Sleep Medicine, focusing on the efficacy of various treatment modalities and the importance of evidence-based practices. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals.

        Is certified by the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM) and is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (ICD). These accolades highlight his commitment to professional excellence and his dedication to advancing the field of Dental Sleep Medicine.

      • GuerreroP348Dr. Guerrero graduated from the Orofacial Pain Residency Program at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM), where she also received extensive training in the field of Dental Sleep Medicine under the mentorship of Dr. Leopoldo Correa. She is also a faculty member of Tufts’ Continuing Education Mini-Residency Programs (TMD and Orofacial Pain and Dental Sleep Medicine).

        She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain.
        She is an Assistant Professor at the Craniofacial Pain Center at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
    • Sovna Shivani Mishra, BDS, MDS
      • MishraS314Dr. Sovna Mishra first day with UT Health San Antonio, School of Dentistry in the Department of Comprehensive was in November 2024. She received her Bachelor of Dental Surgey from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai India in 2010. She has also completed a Master of Dental Surgery (Oral Medicine and Radiology) from Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai, India in 2015. Dr. Mishra is certified in American Board of Orofacial pain, which she received in 2024. She is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and a life member of the Indian Association of Forensic Odontology and of the International Organization for Forensic Odonto-stomatology.     • Noah S. Siegel, MD
      • SiegelN347Noah S. Siegel, MD is Board Certified in both Sleep Medicine and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Siegel serves as the Director of Sleep Medicine and Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School. He is the Medical Director of Otolaryngology for Massachusetts Eye and Ear’s Longwood facility in Boston and is clinical faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Siegel serves as the medical director for several sleep laboratories in the Boston area. In addition, Dr. Siegel is part of the faculty at Tufts Dental School in the division of Craniofacial pain, TMD and Sleep.

        Dr. Siegel graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor in 1995. He completed his general surgery internship at Northwestern University and then completed his residency at Harvard University in Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Siegel has an active medical practice with primary interest in sleep apnea and the role of the nose in sleep disordered breathing. Regularly, he is a featured speaker at medical and dental sleep courses/training programs.
