Simplified Periodontal Disease Classification in Daily Clinical Practice What the Dentist and the Hygienist Need to Know

Hybrid Course: Webinar Attendance Option

January 31, 2026

Important Note for This Hybrid Course

This is the page to register for the webinar option for this hybrid course. Once you complete registration on this page, you will have agreed to attend the course via webinar on Zoom and may not change your registration to attend in person. To attend in person, click here to register.

Course Overview

The 2017 periodontal classification system transformed how we diagnose and manage periodontal disease. Yet many dental teams still struggle with putting it into daily practice. A survey published by the American Dental Hygienists’ Association reported that nearly 50% of participants believed attending a CE course on the 2017 classification would be extremely valuable in helping them implement the system, develop evidence-based treatment plans, and communicate more effectively with patients and other providers.

This course makes the 2017 periodontal classification system simple, practical, and profitable, giving you the confidence to apply it chairside while improving patient care, insurance documentation, and practice production.

Objectives

  1. Staging & Grading Made Easy: Understand the system in a way that’s fast and clinically useful.
  2. General practice vs. interdisciplinary: Clear guidelines on which patients to manage in general practice and which to manage in collaboration with a specialist.
  3. Insurance & Coding Compliance: Apply classification to support SRP, maintenance, and gingivitis codes (reduce denials!)
  4. Boost Hygiene Production: Ensure patients receive the right treatment, not “just another prophy”.
  5. Team Calibration: Get dentists and hygienists speaking the same diagnostic language.
  6. Patient Communication Tools: Develop a ready-to-use script to explain periodontal disease in patient-friendly language.
