Continuing Dental Education
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Office of Continuing Dental Education at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is to provide professional growth opportunities and quality continuing education programs as the needs of the profession demand.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
It is our firm belief that Continuing Dental Education courses should present the newest developments in patient evaluation, treatment, techniques, products, materials, and equipment even though some of them may be controversial. The Dental School does not endorse the content and philosophy of any Continuing Education course but offers various viewpoints to better serve the practicing dental professional.
A Welcome Message from our Director, William O. Butler, M.S.
Greetings from the heart of Texas and the land where history still lives in the lives of many. I am Texas Proud to return to the heartbeat of our great country that for me is filled with priceless memories. Not being a native to this great state, I was introduced to the travel line, " it's a lot like visiting a whole other country", as a small boy on a family trip to see my uncle's family in Texas City. Years later I returned to participate with my brother's wedding in Fort Worth on Carswell Air Force Base. Soon I found myself rebuilding a classic MG in Lake Jackson close to the Brazosport Area and Houston. Those days in July will remain lasting memories and very fond ones. Little did I know that soon I would get the opportunity to settle down and learn to live and share in the pride of this vibrant state. Dallas became my home, Texas history became my enlightenment. The sky seemed a lot bigger and closer as I explored the plains, the hill country, the beaches, the mountains, and the valley’s of the Lone Star State. I quickly understood the feeling one gets when they realize the strong message our state flag showers down upon us as we gaze at those fields of red, white, and blue with the single star. I left for a while but returned for meetings and vacations during those short years. One trip was to San Antonio during the Christmas holidays. The sights of this beautiful city during this festive time became forever fixed in my memory. Those recollections, the reputation of our school, the faculty, the resources, the facility, and the administrative support we receive made my decision to accept the director's position a simple one. It has been my privilege to be here for the past 15 years.
When I am asked what makes this place so special and why our department is nationally distinguished, I tell them it's simply our attention to detail. The staff in continuing dental education can address your needs before you ask. They know how to make things happen at our Health Science Center. We want you to enjoy your stay with us and continue to receive the most current education in dentistry.
We believe that continuing professional education is integral to a successful dental practice. Providing continuing dental education is a part of our school's mission. The transfer of new scientific knowledge, development of new technical skills, continued growth in practice management, the opportunity to openly discuss health related issues, and develop interpersonal skills are all activities the Dental School can and should provide for the oral health professional. We will continue to meet the needs of the people we serve.
Take a few moments to check out our WEB site and make note of our numerous course offerings. Please plan to participate in our continuing dental education courses, the Kenneth D. Rudd Participant Award program, and our great city, we will appreciate your support and patronage.
Best personal regards;
William O. Butler, M.S., Director
