PURPOSE:
The purpose of this course is to update the practitioner on appropriate assessment and management of the patient at risk for increased bleeding. A review of the recently introduced new anticoagulant medications will be provided, with a focus on their potential impact to clinical practice.
OBJECTIVES:
- Know the patterns of presentation of the patient at risk for excessive bleeding in dental practice.
- Review the relevant clinical or laboratory tests necessary to assess the patient at risk for increased bleeding.
- Review the recently introduced anticoagulant medications with attention to their advantages and limitations when compared to more traditional anticoagulant medications.
