Implants have become increasingly popular among clinicians and patients. Parallel to this development, ridge preservation procedure has gained in popularity with the goal to maintain the contour of the bony housing following tooth extraction in prevision of future dental placement.
OBJECTIVES
- Describe the wound healing process following extraction alone, extraction with immediate implant placement and extraction with ridge preservation.
- List the available materials and techniques used for ridge preservation
- Identify clinical situations for which ridge preservation is highly recommended
