This course is presented in three sections, Muscle Disorders, TMJ Disorders and Self-Management Therapies. The course includes case studies of 17 patients who present with possible TMJ problems. The case studies discuss diagnosis and treatment of the various muscle and TMJ disorders including referred pain and TMJ disc displacement without reduction with limited opening (closed lock). The course will also inform you about TMD self-management therapies and stabilization appliance variables (e.g., maxillary Vs mandibular, and hard Vs soft) and adjustment recommendations.
Course Objectives: After completing this course, the participant should be able to:
Diagnose when tooth pain is caused by TMD or TMD is a result of tooth pain.
Recognize when a TMJ disc displacement should be treated.
Understand how to effectively use various TMD therapies.
Gain new insight on which stabilization appliance you would prefer to provide various patients.
Understand how to efficiently adjust stabilization appliances.
