Course overview
Successful completion of this course will provide the necessary training for a dentist to apply to the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners for a permit to administer minimal enteral (oral) sedation (level 1 permit). The course is a 16 hour curriculum of lecture with simulated patient scenarios and multiple case discussions.
Objectives
Understand current TSBDE rules and regulations regarding minimal sedation
To outline the pharmacology of commonly utilized oral sedatives and appropriate techniques
Weigh advantages and disadvantages of various oral medications
Discuss medical considerations for sedation
Address pediatric considerations
Provide a comprehensive review of patient evaluation including medical history and vital signs
