Have You Been Sued Yet? New Challenges in Risk Management and Record Keeping

Course overview

This course will include an in-depth discussion of actual lawsuit cases. This NEW course is approved by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners for technical and/or scientific course credits and can be used toward relicensure.


Objectives

At the conclusion of the course, participants will learn:

  • Jurisprudence and ethics review
  • Types of lawsuits affecting dentistry
  • Potential sources of all dental lawsuits
  • What are the odds of being sued
  • New challenges increasing the risk of being sued
  • What to do if you are sued
  • Texas State Board disciplinary actions
  • What to do if you are charged with violations
  • Keeping dental records that meet TSBDE requirements and provide malpractice defense
  • What the future holds

  • Presenter(s)

    • Robert M. Anderton, D.D.S., JD, LLM
      • ROBERT M. ANDERTON, D.D.S., JD, LLM, received his dental degree from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1961 and JD degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law. He is a fellow of the AGD, ACLM, ICD, and ACD. Dr. Anderton is a Former President of the Texas Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
    • James W. Orr, D.D.S.
      • JAMES W. ORR, D.D.S., obtained his degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Dental Branch in 1968. He served on the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, the Texas State Board of Radiation Control and as Director of the Texas Medicaid Program.

    Course Note

    Effective September 1, 2008 Rule 104.1, licensees may choose to have up to four (4) hours of risk management-related coursework. Includes risk management, record keeping, and/or ethics courses and the allowance for self-study hours has been increased to six (6) hours.
