OSHA 2023 Update: The Ins and Outs of Germ Warfare

Course overview

This course introduces evidence based information that will facilitate compliance with 29CFR Part 1910.1030, Occupational Exposure to Blood borne Pathogens, Final Rule (Federal Register 56(235): 64004-182, 64004-182, 1991) and the implementation of recommendations made by other federal, state, and local Agencies and professional organizations. The course is comprised of three Sections which must be taken sequentially. A test will be completed at the end of each section.

Participation in the course requires that you:

  • Register online with the our secured server.
  • Pay a $120.00 registration fee.
  • Complete all course sections yielding to 3 hours of didactic participation

  • Course Sections

  • Section #1: Compliance with Guidelines of Federal, State Local Agencies and Professional Organizations
  • Section #2: Promoting Prevention; Safe Behavior In The Healthcare Setting
  • Section #3: Prevention, Post-Exposure Follow Up, Transmission Based Precautions & Administrative Controls For Risk Management

  • At the end of each course section/part, you will take the exam that will be graded and you will see your results instantaneously. You will have 1 month to complete the course. Once you begin the course, you will have the ability to Log Out and Log In. This may only be done during a presentation not during an examination. The module exam cannot be paused once started.

    After you have successfully completed the 3 course content sections, you will take the required comprehensive exam to finalize your participation in this course. You will be required to achieve a passing score of 80%. If you fail to answer enough questions correctly, you will be instructed to re-take the exam and a new set of questions will be provided. You will have three chances to fulfill the requirements. If you are not successful, you will be instructed to contact the Office of Continuing Dental Education.

    • Geza T. Terezhalmy, DDS, MA
      • GEZA T. TEREZHALMY, DDS, MA, received his DDS degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1971, continuing with his postgraduate training from 1975 to 1977 and obtaining a Certificate in Oral Medicine from the National Naval Dental Center. In 1987, he obtained his MA degree in Higher Education and Human Deveopment from The George Washington University. Dr. Terezhalmy is certified by the American Board of Oral Medicine and the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.

        Dr. Terezhalmy is Professor and Head of the Division of Oral Medicine in the Department of Dental Diagnostic Science with a cross appointment in the Department of Pharmacology in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor of Oral Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry; a Consultant in Oral Medicine/Pharmacology at the Naval Dental School, National Naval Dental Center; and a Consultant in Oral Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Facultad de Odontologia at the Universidad Mariano Galvez de Guatemala in Guatemala, Guatemala.

        Prior to joining the Health Science Center in 1998, Dr. Terezhalmy served as Dean at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio from 1990 to 1992 and Acting Dean from 1989 to 1990. During this time, he also was Chairman and Director of the Graduate Program in Oral Medicine in the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology at the University. In addition, he has served in various capacities in the United States Navy from 1971 to his current position as a Consultant. In 1980 to 1984, he was the Chairman and Director of the Graduate Program in the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology, Naval Dental School and from 1982 to 1984, Courtesy Clinical Staff in Dental Service, Naval Hospital at the Naval Medical Command, National Capital Region, Bethesda, Maryland.
