OVERVIEW
This hand-on course will provide an opportunity for dental assistants
to gain practical experience at exposing and processing intra oral
radiographs. Dr. Preece will briefly review radiographic principles,
however, the primary focus of the course will be the afternoon hands-on
session. Participants will expose one to two complete mouth radiographic
surveys, utilizing a technique mannequin and Rinn XCP instruments.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants will have an understanding:
• Brief view of radiographic principles (theory).
• Film placement, normal anatomy, error recognition.
• Introduction of radiology lab & mannequins to simulate
operatory setting during hands-on session.
• Afternoon Hands-on session: expose, process, mount and critique
at least two complete mouth radiographic surveys.
PRESENTER
JOHN W. PREECE, D.D.S, M.S., received his D.D.S. degree
from Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago, Illinois
and his M.S. degree from the University of Alabama, School of Dentistry
in Birmingham. Dr. Preece joined the faculty at The University of
Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1975, and is a Professor
in the Department of Dental Diagnostic Science at the Health Science
Center.
He has held numerous leadership positions in professional organizations,
and has been the recipient of several honors. Dr. Preece has a certification
from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and
holds Diplomate status of the ABOMR. Elected to the Mu Nu Chapter
of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society, he has been the recipient
of the Minnie S. Piper - Professor of the Year -Teaching Excellence
Award. Dr. Preece is a member of the International Association of
Dento-Maxillo-Facial Radiology; American Dental Association; American
Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology, and the American
Association of Dental Schools. In addition, he is a member of the
Editorial Board of the Radiology Section of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine,
Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontics Journal and Consultant
to the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation for allied programs.
