Lecture Course
Alternative Medications and Their Impact on Patient Care

ELEONORE D. PAUNOVICH, D.D.S., M.S.C.

OVERVIEW
With the ever-increasing market of herbal and alternative medications, today's dental practitioner must be ready not only to recognize what these medications are, but what their impact is on medications that we may choose to prescribe for our patients. In addition, an understanding of the potential interactions and side effects of these alternative medications may be helpful in light of the steadily increasing use of these products. Particular emphasis will be on the use, side effects, and interactions these products have not only on the more frequently prescribed dental medications, but also on some of the more frequently prescribed medications our patients may be on.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, you will learn:
• An overview of some of today's more common herbal and alternative supplements.
• Begin to review what the literature knows as the impact these products may have on the management of our dental patients.
