Contemporary Trends in Pediatric Dentistry

Treatment of the pediatric patient is involves more than approaching them as miniature adults. This course is divided into two parts; lecture and hands on. The hands on portion will cover a number of topics that are associated with every day comprehensive treatment of the pediatric patient.

The topics this course will cover are; Primary Pulpal Therapy, Behavior management, prevention, the dental home, anticipatory guidance, fluoride, sealants, diet, nutrition, caries risk assessment and management of dental trauma to both the primary and permanent dentition will be discussed. The new current standards of dental trauma addressing, classification, diagnosis and treatment modalities will be discussed. As part of the entire presentation, examples of various types of the treatment and treatment planning will be utilized as part of the different topics covered. The hands on part will cover current pediatric restorations for primary teeth. Integral in this will be a focus on esthetic anterior and posterior restorations.

• Review current basics of essential areas of clinical everyday pediatric dentistry.
• Provide the participant with a better understanding to enable them to provide quality comprehensive care for their pediatric patients.
• An update of current concepts and procedures that can be utilized as part of their everyday pediatric patient care.

Steven P. Hackmyer, D.D.S., earned his dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry Dr. Hackmyer earned his dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry. After that, he completed a residency in Pedodontics (Pediatric Dentistry) at Brookdale Hospital University Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. In addition to many years of private practice experience Dr. Hackmyer has held academic appointments at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, School of Dental Medicine, University of Texas School of Dentistry Houston, University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio Dental School and the University of Tennessee College Of Dentistry where he served as Chair, Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Community Oral Health. Dr. Hackmyer is Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
