Luncheons for Learning
Hemostatic Agents and the General Dentist
Alicia G. Galvan, D.D.S.
One day a month a speaker discusses a dental topic during lunch. The sessions are informal and the group has an opportunity to interact with the speaker during a short discussion period at the end of the lecture. It requires only about one and one-half hour of your time to learn the latest developments in many areas of dentistry. It also offers the opportunity to get better acquainted with your colleagues and their staff since all dental allied personnel and technicians are also invited to attend.
According to a survey performed by the Special Care Dentistry Association, it was found that the majority of patients would like for their general dentist to perform exodontia when necessary if it is within the purview of the treating dentist. In addition there are many other procedures currently performed by properly trained general dentists such as implant placement, soft tissue biopsies and periodontal surgeries. This presentation will serve to explore a variety of hemostatic agents that may be used intraoperatively and perioperatively. The proper use of hemostatic agents by the general dentist will also be discussed relative to their applicability, efficacy, efficiency and financial feasibility
