It’s an everyday routine: load a carpule in a syringe and anesthetize a patient. Yes, we pay attention to the patient’s medical history, and yes, we are aware that different anesthetics have different properties. But do we know where the α1, β1 and β2 receptors are found that epinephrine affects? Or how it affects them? What about the ½ life of levonordefrin? Or which anesthetics are amides and which are esters? Is Articaine better than Bupivicane? What do we know about Etidocaine? Which anesthetics should be avoided in patients with Methemoglobinemia? In another stellar performance, Dr. Mea Weinberg reviews and explains the mechanisms of every anesthetic currently used in the dental profession. She alerts us to which medical conditions will be affected by local anesthetics, and which alternatives we should use when confronted with medical issues. Simply stated: if you use local anesthetics in your dental practice, Dr. Weinberg’s course is an outstanding update of what we all need to know for better patient care.
